31st March 2017 – No ducks

IMG_0297E was determined that we should feed the ducks today, so armed with a bag of peas, we headed to the river. Sadly, they were nowhere to be seen. We headed back up the river to Chantry Bridge, where we did find a couple of Mallards, but they were totally disinterested in our peas. E was very disappointed.

Total wild time – about 1 hour

21st March 2017 – Spring walk

IMG_0270E and I went for a walk with Bramble along the River Coly. E was keen to release my hand and race through the field. The Wild Garlic was out in leaf and there were plenty of birds singing. There were loads of other dog-walkers around and then, on the way back, we bumped into a huge group of ramblers.

Later, we went to my parents for dinner and storm-watched from their garden-room, which has a great view over Colyton. Afterwards, we walked back in the almost-dark.

Total wild time – about 1 hour

20th March 2017 – Muddy puddles

E was an absolute star today and walked for our entire dog walk, giving me hope that we will be able to ditch the buggy soon. We got drenched in a heavy shower, but he didn’t seem to mind. When we got to a muddy bit, he said “Just like my book!” and I knew he meant “We’re going on a bear hunt”, so we ‘Squelch squerched” our way through it. He wanted to throw stones in the river and was excited to see the ducks swimming towards him.

Total wild time – about 30 mins

11th March 2017 – Pony riding

IMG_0251IMG_0248

Izzy giggled for the entire time that we were pony riding, enjoying Cracker’s fast trot and making me run next to her. The Wild Daffodils, Primroses and Violets were flowering and the birds were singing.

Whilst we were out, B and E were walking to the allotment and stopped to watch a Heron catch a fish in the River Coly.

Total wild time – 1 hour 23 mins (Izzy), 20 mins (E)

3rd March 2017 – Cancelled welly walk

Izzy’s class welly walk was cancelled due to bad weather, so the only wild time we got was walking to Grandmum and Grandad’s house to help them move in. The Coly was overflowing its banks and we paused to watch a Heron fishing in the swollen river. We also watched the birds at the bird feeders in my parent’s garden, including 2 Pheasants, before tucking into fish and chips for dinner.

Total wild time – 15 mins (Izzy), E 0 mins

27th February 2017 – Ducks

IMG_0204

I took E and Bramble for a walk around Colyton and was amazed when E correctly pointed out that there were no ‘mummy’ ducks hanging out on the river today. We were also happy to see a rainbow

IMG_0209Later, whilst Izzy was at zumba, I took E to the wetlands for a spin on his balance bike. He giggled hysterically as he careered along the tracks. We paused to gaze out at the Shelducks on Black Hole Marsh. The rain started to fall and by the time we were back at the car, E was complaining of freezing fingers.

Total wild time – about 1 hour 10 mins (E), Izzy 0 mins

24th December 2016 – Lost phone

My sister-in-law and her fiancé came to stay, so we all went for a walk down to the river. We had fun skimming and throwing stones into the water. I took a photo, but when I got home, I realised I had lost my phone, so B and I went back to search for it. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find it, so I have also lost my photo.

Total wild time – about 1 hour
