21st March 2017 – Spring walk

IMG_0270E and I went for a walk with Bramble along the River Coly. E was keen to release my hand and race through the field. The Wild Garlic was out in leaf and there were plenty of birds singing. There were loads of other dog-walkers around and then, on the way back, we bumped into a huge group of ramblers.

Later, we went to my parents for dinner and storm-watched from their garden-room, which has a great view over Colyton. Afterwards, we walked back in the almost-dark.

Total wild time – about 1 hour

20th March 2017 – Muddy puddles

E was an absolute star today and walked for our entire dog walk, giving me hope that we will be able to ditch the buggy soon. We got drenched in a heavy shower, but he didn’t seem to mind. When we got to a muddy bit, he said “Just like my book!” and I knew he meant “We’re going on a bear hunt”, so we ‘Squelch squerched” our way through it. He wanted to throw stones in the river and was excited to see the ducks swimming towards him.

19th March 2017 – A walk with grandparents

IMG_0264With B in Amsterdam, GrandmumĀ and Grandad joined me and the kids on a dog walk around Colyton. Incredibly, there was no whingeing, no asking to be carried and everyone enjoyed themselves! I gave E a feather to hold and Grandad picked some Willow catkins for Izzy. We paused to watch the little waterfall on the stream beside The Ridgway.

18th March 2017 – Pony riding

IMG_0261Izzy and I had to avoid the hunt this week, so we took Cracker on a new route, which took us past very picturesque fields full of Wild Daffodils and new-born lambs. Izzy almost tumbled off when Cracker suddenly put his head down to eat the grass growing in the middle of the lane, but luckily I caught her before she hit the ground.

Total wild time – about 1 hour

17th March 2017 – Welly Walk

I joined Izzy’s class for another welly walk. The kids, singing at the tops of their voices, walked to Road Green and played at the playground there. I made Daisy chains for some of them and they made a nest out of sticks. They found some conkers, which were sprouting and took them back to grow in the classroom.

Total wild time – about 1 hour

16th March 2017 – Rollerskating

IMG_0260Izzy and I tried out our new roller-skates at the wetlands, whilst B supervised E on his balance bike. It was not the best way to spot wildlife, as there was quite a lot of screeching (mainly from me!) and I did feel a bit bad about the photographer we were disturbing, but we had a lot of fun and I am sure I spotted a Harvest Mouse nest in bushes next to the main path.

Total wild time – 30 mins

14th March 2017 – Dog walk

E and I took Bramble for a walk around Colyton, with E pointing in the direction that he wanted the buggy to go. The resident Heron gave us a fly-by and we saw a couple of tractors, which made E’s day. The smell of freshly cut-grass in the churchyard cheered me up on a grey day.
