28th December 2016 – Creaturepedia

We failed to get into the wild today, as Izzy is still poorly and E is now coming down with a cold, too. So disappointing, as I had lots of fun things planned, including star-gazing, for this school holiday. I am still hoping to get to the Starling murmuration on the Somerset Levels, but we’ll see… E and I did have a lovely cuddle reading one of the kids’ Christmas prezzies – ‘Creaturepedia’ by Adrienne Barman, which contains some delightful illustrations of wild animals.

27th December 2016 – Allotment

Izzy has a shocking cough, so whilst she and B had a duvet day, I took E to the allotment for a spot of weeding. Despite having to repeatedly tell him to stop standing on the Broad Bean plants, he seemed to enjoy doing a bit of digging and finding worms. He ended up thoroughly muddy and a bit tired and although I didn’t achieve very much, it was nice to get out on the plot for a bit.

Total wild time – about 1 hour (E), Izzy (0)

26th December 2016 – Boxing Day

Along with most of the other inhabitants of East Devon, we went to the beach for a walk and so Izzy could try out her new roller skates. It was unseasonably warm and the beach was packed (partly due to the hunt meet on the adjacent road). Some hardy people were having a dip in the sea in their bikinis, but we stayed dry.

Total wild time – about 1 hour

24th December 2016 – Lost phone

My sister-in-law and her fiancé came to stay, so we all went for a walk down to the river. We had fun skimming and throwing stones into the water. I took a photo, but when I got home, I realised I had lost my phone, so B and I went back to search for it. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find it, so I have also lost my photo.

Total wild time – about 1 hour

19th December 2016 – Long car journey

No time for the wild today, as we drove to Bath for an overnight stay. We did, however, spot Buzzards, Kestrels and 2 Roe Deer through the car window, as well as numerous Rookeries and lots of Mistletoe in the bare winter trees. Once in the city, E was delighted by the flocks of feral Pigeons that scavenged in the streets.
